TIS.kis has developed the OTA Configurator to enable the mobile operator to remotely configure their subscribers’ mobile devices. Based on the specifications provided by Nokia and Ericsson, Openwave and The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) but extendible to all other mobile device manufacturers that provide similar specifications, this product is able to send configuration profiles to mobile devices over the air. It can configure subscriber’s GSM/CSD, GSM/SMS, GSM/USSD, IS-136/CSD, MMS and GPRS settings as well as push HOMEPAGE and BOOKMARK URLs to the subscriber.

Supported mobile phones include devices from Nokia, Ericsson, SonyEricsson, Siemens and Samsung. It also supports the standardized OMA device provisioning protocol which is expected to be implemented in most upcoming terminals. OMA protocol defines sending advanced settings such as SyncML, e-mail and Wireless Village.

The core of the system is a back end XML-RPC server connected to the provider’s SMSC via a SMS gateway. It connects to the SMSC via an SMPP connection, which allows the system to send specially formatted SMS messages to mobile devices.

This backend system provides the functional implementation of the specifications provided in document DSS00234-EN by Ericsson and Nokia and Openwave OTA specifications and OMA OTA provisioning protocol. It's modular architecture allows the server to be extended to any device manufacturer’s OTA Settings specifications, given that the manufacturer releases the specifications to TIS.kis
